Android Apps for Pet Owners

Although the iPhone is popular, I favor Android. My Motorola Droid should be arriving on Wednesday. Can’t wait! After performing a quick search, here are some apps for the android that may be useful for pet owners.

Android Phone Apps for Pet Owners

FYI – use your phone’s Market app to download these apps on your phone. You can use these links to view the information, reviews, and screenshots.

  • Pet Care Services (free) – Identifies your location and lets you search for all kinds of pet services in your area.
  • How Tos (Pets) (free) – Read popular articles and How-to’s on Pets topics from eHow.com
  • Find Pets (free) – Browse through and view details of pets displayed for sale on Oodle.com (Oodle.com appears to be a mash-up of classified ads and postings from different sites).
  • PetBook (free and $2.99 versions) – Record your pet information (birthdays, vet information) and create a photo gallery.
  • Pets Next Door (free) – Picture blog for dogs, cats, and other pets. Send greeting cards, add video to your stories.

  • Loving Dog Widget (eoepet) (free) – a virtual pet that can be added as a widget to the phone.

iPhone Apps for Pet Owners

Even though I have a Motorola DROID phone, I realize that the iPhone is probably more popular. So I was wondering which apps exist on one or the other for pet owners. Since I found quite a few for the iPhone, I’ll list the Android ones in the next post. A quick search on Google for iPhone apps for pets brought me to 5 Great iPhone Apps for Pet Owners on Mashable.com. Here is what I found there, plus some others:

Find an app to help your pet!

iPhone Apps for Pets

  • Pet Notebook ($1.99) Manage information such as vet visits, photos, and identification for multiple pets
  • Off Leash Dog Park This one appears to have been removed since the article was printed. It let owners find an off leash dog park. Hey, you can still use the Search part of Pawfect Lounge Pet Connection to find dog parks! Let me know if you are interested in a mobile version of the site!
  • Pet Phone ($4.99) This lets you find vets, create and manage vet visits, track medications, and chart your pet’s weight to visualize change over time.
  • All Pets Radio Player (Free) Listen to pet-related news, tips, and information on pet radio.
  • Relax Alarm Clock Lite (Free) Alarm clock that lets you record audio to be played as the alarm (record your pet so you can be reminded of them while you’re on vacation)
  • PetFinder (Free) Search for the right pet by city, state/province, share pet profiles via Facebook, Twitter, or email, and bookmark pet profiles.
  • Pet Pals ($1.99) Not sure if this still exists, but it’s a pet simulation game. Take care of a cat, dog, penguin, rabbit, or rock by feeding, bathing, and playing games. Earn money that is used to buy toys and objects.
  • petsMD Mobile Symptom Checker ($1.99) Help diagnose problems for your pet while on the go.

Pawfect Lounge: Pet Connection Launched!

The pet connection website is now in beta mode. I’ve added many businesses that I found by Google searches, but I need your help in adding others that you find! Please sign up for a free account to add a business to the site. Search the website by service type to find a particular service near you. I’ve added pretty many categories of services, including Doggie Daycare/camp, merchandise, boarding, grooming, dog walking, pet sitting, training, dog parks, clean up, adoption/shelter, health care/clinic (veterinarians), pet store, and cuisine! I didn’t realize that there are businesses out there that provide dog food and treats in a buffet-style (bakery) for dogs that come in! I found Three Dog Bakery and Heidi’s Homemade. They are under the cuisine category.

Social Links

The details page of a business will display links to that business’ profile on social networks and other community/review sites. I haven’t done much research to find all these links yet, so please send an email or post a comment if you would like to point out a link to a business.

Reviews

Viewing and creating reviews for a business are not available yet. I’m still not sure if adding the ability to write reviews on this site is prudent due to the numerous other review sites out there. Please use the social links for the respective business to find reviews on other sites. But what would set these reviews apart from the others is the ability to rate each individual service provided by a business, and provide an opportunity for businesses to respond to the feedback and reviews they receive. NOTE: Reviews and feedback will be moderated to an extent to ensure communication is civil, intelligent, appropriate, respectful, and rated G.

Let me know what you think about the new site!
